In honour of today’s feast of St Maria Goretti. This is a movie that was originally in Italian (I think) and is dubbed in English, with Spanish subtitles.
It tells the story of St Maria Goretti, a modern martyr for purity and a true example for all of living a faithful Christian life.
Some of the scenes may disturb younger children, as they portray the deaths of workers to malaria and infer the circumstances around which Maria herself was killed.
They say the truth is stranger than fiction, and an amazing case in point is this story. Her murderer remained unrepentant for decades until he had a dream of Maria and from then on lived a life of virtue from within prison. He was present at the canonisation of St Maria, and sat next to her mother! She had forgiven him for having taken the life of her precious daughter.
